Lauren Cason is een game artist met brede ervaring variërend van iPhone game, experimentele VR tot gigantische MMOs. Ze heeft onder andere gewerkt voor MIT’s Game Lab, Funomena en Harmonix. Momenteel is Cason senior artist bij ustwo games, de studio die onlangs Monument Valley 2 uitbracht.
Moeder en kind
De hoofdpersonen in Monument Valley 2 zijn moeder en kind. Moederpersonages in games missen over het algemeen diepgang en vaak wordt hun hele karakter samengevat in het feit dat ze een kind hebben. In Monument Valley 2 is de moeder meer dan dat. Cason vertelt in haar Control Conference talk hoe ustwo games koos voor het verhaal van de veranderende relatie tussen een moeder en haar kind. Ze bespreekt de tools die ze gebruikten om dat verhaal te vertellen, en bespreekt de vraag waarom wij als een industrie deze verhalen niet vaker vertellen.

Lauren Cason is a game artist who has experience in a broad variety of projects, ranging from iPhone game to experimental VR to giant MMO’s. The companies she worked for include MIT’s Game Lab, Funomena and Harmonix. She currently is a Senior Artist at ustwo games, the studio that recently launched Monument Valley 2.
Mother and child
The main characters in the game are a mother and child. Mothers persona in games often lack depth and it’s not uncommon that their character is summarized by the fact that they have a child. In Monument Valley 2 the mother is much more than that. In her Control Conference talk Cason will explore how ustwo games chose the story of the changing relationship between a mother and her child. She will discuss the tools they chose to tell that story, and the larger question of why we as an industry aren’t telling these stories more often.
