Company description
Job description
GAMES LINGUISTIC TESTERS (Freelance)
(French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Polish, Russian)What's up?Our test department has expanded its terrain to include most of Europe. As a linguistic tester it is your task to review new games in their final phase of development, checking the localised screen texts, subtitles and/or audio that’s been implemented in the game. The games you will be testing may vary from small web-based PC games to epic games for handhelds (PSP, DS) and next-gen consoles (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii).As a linguistic tester, what you typically do is test the game for:
- Grammar and spelling - reporting any typos or linguistic errors in on-screen text and subtitling (if relevant).
- Context - reporting and correcting texts that don't seem to match with what actually is happening in the game.
- Consistency - reporting and correcting on-screen text and subtitling (if relevant) that have already been translated differently elsewhere in the game.
- Programming - flagging any missing language elements (menu or on-screen texts, subtitling, speech files), plus length issues (texts that run off the screen) and propose corrections whenever possible. Of course you never forget your job is to spot linguistic errors and not to debug the programming code.
Are you talking to me?In April 2008 our international testlab became an independent company with its own offices around the corner from our Utrecht head office, boasting game testing services for 11 European languages and Brazilian Portuguese. Currently, we are looking for native speakers of :
- French,
- Italian,
- German,
- Spanish,
- (Brazilian) Portuguese,
- Danish,
- Finnish,
- Norwegian,
- Swedish,
- Polish,
- Russian
that preferably live in The Netherlands. However, U-TRAX will help you relocate and provide housing if necessary.Test projects can last anything from 1 day to several months and have the habit of starting when you least expect it. However, we are pretty sure we have enough work for you for a period of at least 2 months. It is essential that you:
- have thorough command of your mother tongue,
- are proficient in English,
- are extremely precise and aim at perfection,
- are available full time during the abovementioned two months.
Besides that, you will benefit from:
- being willing and able to travel abroad (sometimes clients want a part of the test to take place at the offices of the developer of the game),
- being an avid gamer and having played on many of the current platforms (PS2, PSP, PS3, Xbox 360, GBA, NDS, Wii and PC),
- being immune to stress and not having problems with working long days or during the weekends,
- having great communicative and social skills.
What's in it for me?In the recent past, several linguistic testers have progressed to long-term positions within U-TRAX or elsewhere in the games industry. Considering U-TRAX' steady growth (and that of the entire games localisation industry), we would like to point out this is still a realistic scenario for skilled and knowledgeable linguistic testers. So where do I sign?If you think you are made for this job, please send your application in English or Dutch, as well as a comprehensive résumé containing a list of games that you have played (or have particular fond memories of), to recruitment@utrax.com t.a.v. Karen van Vliet, HR Officer. If we think you are suitable for the job, we will ask you to do a linguistic test, that takes approximately 3 hours.
